Mayo Clinic Recognizes Recipients of Professorships
Mayo Clinic recognized two consultants from the Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology, Fergus Couch, Ph.D., and Vincent Rajkumar, M.D., for professorships on September 14. The professorships were awarded through nomination and peer endorsement, and in honor of Mayo benefactors. This appointment is Mayo Clinic’s highest academic distinction.

About Fergus Couch, Ph.D.
Dr. Couch, chair of the Division of Experimental Pathology and Laboratory Medicine and professor of laboratory medicine and pathology, has been awarded the Zbigniew and Anna M. Scheller Professorship of Medical Research. Dr. Couch is jointly appointed in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and the Department of Health Sciences Research. In 2013, he was named Mayo Clinic Investigator of the Year, which is presented to individuals who have made a significant advance in practice-changing research, a strong record of extramural funding, and a strong record of research mentorship.

About Vincent Rajkumar, M.D.
Dr. Rajkumar, a hematologist in the Division of Hematology at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, has received the Edward W. and Betty Knight Scripps Professorship in Medicine in Honor of Dr. Edward C. Rosenow, III. Dr. Rajkumar has joint appointments in the Department of Hematology and the Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology, and serves as chair of the Myeloma, Amyloid, and Dysproteinemia Group for Mayo Clinic Cancer Center.
