World Blood Donor Day: June 14
Celebrate World Blood Donor Day on Tuesday, June 14, by donating this life-saving gift and thanking blood donors who already give to the Mayo Clinic Blood Donor Center. World Blood Donor Day is a day to raise awareness and recognize those who give back by donating blood. As blood cannot be manufactured in a laboratory, patients in need can only receive blood donated by others.
“We are so thankful and proud of our donors who come in out of pure altruism,” says Justin Kreuter, M.D., Medical Director of the Mayo Clinic Blood Donor Center. “Without the continued support and blood donations from our community, employees, and family members of patients, those patients would not receive the blood they require. It is truly a gift.”
About the Blood Donor Center
Mayo Clinic’s Blood Donor Center was established in 1935 and has been serving patients ever since. Individuals may donate by giving whole blood, platelets, or plasma. Donation time varies from 45 minutes to two hours, depending on the type of blood donation.
The Mayo Blood Donor Center has three locations in Rochester: the Hilton Building (first floor), the Joseph Building on Saint Marys Campus (room M-86), and Building 4 on the IBM campus (for IBM campus employees only).
Donate in June
The need for blood donors is ongoing, so please consider donating during the month of June in honor of World Blood Donor Day. And remember to thank your fellow peers for their blood donations and support.
