Yavapai Regional Medical Center Partners with MML for Blood-Testing Needs
Yavapai Regional Medical Center (YRMC) has selected Mayo Medical Laboratories (MML) as its exclusive reference laboratory. The agreement provides YRMC physicians and staff with access to Mayo Clinic’s extensive menu of more than 3,000 laboratory tests in every subspecialty of medicine. Also, YRMC laboratory staff and practitioners will be able to speak directly with Mayo physicians and scientists to review patient test orders and collaboratively interpret results.
“Mayo approached YRMC about serving as our exclusive ‘reference lab,’” says Stephanie Fricke, director of YRMC’s laboratory services. “We agreed to work with them because they share a dedication to high-quality lab services.”
Residents who need these tests have their blood taken at one of YRMC’s three community-based draw stations or at YRMC East in Prescott Valley or YRMC West in Prescott. The blood is transported the same day to Mayo Medical Laboratories in Rochester, Minnesota. By 7 a.m. the following day, the Mayo lab team is processing the specimens and beginning the exams. In 24 to 48 hours, each patient’s physician receives the test results.
“The results are delivered to the physician using YRMC’s electronic medical records system,” Fricke says. “It’s high-tech medicine.”
According to an article in The Daily Courier, the YRMC’s Laboratory Services team processes approximately 257,000 inpatient studies and 413,000 outpatient studies each year. Area residents have multiple options for testing available with three community draw stations as well as laboratories at YRMC East and YRMC West.
