National Blood Donor Month
Blood is traditionally in short supply during the winter months due to the holidays, travel schedules, inclement weather, and illness. January, in particular, is a difficult month for blood centers to collect blood donations, so January has been designated as National Blood Donor Month to encourage donors to give blood in the New Year.
According to the Association of Donor Recruitment Professionals, almost 40,000 units of blood are used daily in U.S. hospitals and emergency treatment facilities. At Mayo Clinic, your one donation may touch up to three patients’ lives. We hope that you will consider donating during National Blood Donor Month and throughout the year.
