This Mayo Clinic conference will provide reviews and updates about laboratory and clinical aspects of bleeding and thrombosing disorders. Didactic presentations will be supplemented with panel discussions and case presentations. Adequate time will be allocated for questions.


Intended Audience

This program is designed for clinicians, pathologists, family physicians, physician assistants, scientists, nurse practitioners, nurses, and laboratory technologists whose practices include bleeding and thrombosing diseases.


Conference Objectives

Upon completion of the conference, participants should be able to:

  • Describe recommended  clinical and laboratory evaluation for von Willebrand disease (VWD).
  • Assess common acquired disorders of plasmatic hemostasis that lead to bleeding or thrombosis.
  • Recognize features of hereditary platelet disorders.
  • Evaluate antibody-mediated prothrombotic disorders such as heparin-induced thrombocytopenia, thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura, or lupus anticoagulant and antiphospholipid syndrome.
  • Summarize clinical features and laboratory evaluation of congenital and acquired bleeding disorders.
  • Discuss updates in venous thromboembolism and features of newer anticoagulant drugs.

Cancellation Policy

If you cancel your participation in this conference on or before August 18, 2017, your registration fee, less a $75 administrative fee, will be refunded. The Mayo Medical Laboratories Education Department must receive written notification of your cancellation. No refunds will be made after August 18, 2017.

Mayo Medical Laboratories reserves the right to cancel or postpone any conference due to unforeseen circumstances. In the unlikely event Mayo Medical Laboratories must cancel or postpone this conference, Mayo Medical Laboratories will refund the registration fee but is not responsible for any related costs, charges, or expenses to participants, including fees assessed by airline/travel/lodging agencies.


Travel and Lodging

Travel arrangements are the responsibility of the individual registrant.

Rochester, Minnesota, is a friendly city that greets thousands of visitors from around the world each year. The city is served by a modern international airport with multiple flights daily from Chicago, Atlanta, and Minneapolis via American or Delta Airlines. Access to and from the airport is available by taxi, shuttle service, and rental car. The Rochester International Airport (RST) is located approximately 10 miles from downtown, and the Hilton Garden Inn and Kahler Grand Hotel are both located 15 minutes from the airport.

Attention: Several cities in the United States are named “Rochester.” When you make airline reservations and check your baggage, be sure that your destination is Rochester, Minnesota (RST), and that your baggage has been properly tagged.

Mayo Medical Laboratories is not responsible for expenses incurred by an individual who is not confirmed and for whom space is not available at the meeting. Costs incurred by the registrant such as airline or hotel fees or penalties are the responsibility of the registrant.
