PathWays Case Study: Oct. 3

A late preterm baby girl, large for gestational age, was born with hypoglycemia that persisted for several weeks. Newborn screening and blood cultures results were negative. CBC with differential was within normal limits. Labs drawn during a hypoglycemic episode demonstrated a glucose of 35 mg/dL, growth hormone of 15.0 ng/mL (RI: 0.01-0.97 ng/mL), insulin of 15.0 mcIU/mL (RI: 2.6-24.9 mcIU/mL), C-peptide of 3.0 ng/mL (RI: 1.1-4.4 ng/mL), and free fatty acids of 0.50 mmol/L (RI: <0.72 mmol/L).
