PathWays Case Study: October 24

A 71-year-old woman presented with pruritus, fatigue, and unintentional weight loss. A CBC revealed Hb 9.0 g/dL, Hct 27.4%, RBC 2.91 x 10^9/L, MCV 94.2 fL, WBC 7.4 x 10^9/L, PLT 135 x 10^9/L. Her PMH was significant for gastric bypass surgery, femoral bypass surgery, and hypothyroidism for which she is currently on Synthroid. Due to her cytopenias a bone marrow biopsy was performed and a diagnosis of myelodysplastic syndrome was made.
