In this month’s “Virtual Lecture,” Justin Kreuter, M.D., goes over the importance of maintaining a healthy blood donor community by talking about the effects of blood donation on stored iron and describing which individuals are at a higher risk for iron deficiency anemia.

 

Objectives

Upon completion of this program, participants should be able to:

  • Recognize the effect of blood donation on stored iron.
  • List groups who are at particular risk for iron deficiency anemia.
  • Summarize recommendations of the AABB Donor Iron Deficiency Risk-Based Decision-Making Assessment Report.
