I have a 14 year old son who had at a little under 3 years of age in 2008,symptoms which led to a ADEM diagnosis. Ataxia, encephalopathy were evident. MRI scans showed diffuse white matter not consistent with MS. Short course of oral steroids after 3 days of IV steroids were administered. A few months after, he had a ON attack bilaterally. After Steroid IV and an oral taper for close to 18 mths he stayed free from symptoms and medication for 5 years. In 2015 he had another ON episode. He tested negative for AQP4 both in 2008 and 2015 and negative for all other auto immune disorders and brain scans were and lumbar puncture results did not show lesions. Ogo bands in 2015 showed mirror bands. As he tapered to just 2mg of pred for close to 6 mths he had a repeat ON episode in Jan 2018. All scans and mog and aqp4 tests negative. Again on steroids….down to 5mg….a few dats ago bumped up to 20mg as visual fields showed some instability. Tested again for aqp4 and awaiting results. I am feeling a lot of stress as my son goes through this since 2008. Would you be able to let me know whether there is anyway I can seel the asst of mayo on this without actually going to the US. I am prepared of course to foot any charges that are incurred for consultation jointly with the national university hospital in Singapore where my son is currently being seen. I would be deeply greatful if a collaborative effort be undertaken to give my son real hope in life. He has much to offer. Please give him a chance through your time and effort.
