Presented by: Mayo Clinic Laboratories

This conference will use didactic lectures and case studies, the overall objective of this program is to provide an update on interpretation and optimal application of standard and evolving test repertoire to diagnose non-malignant blood disorders. Combining the clinical and laboratory experience of our Mayo Clinic faculty, we will illustrate the practical application of testing algorithms derived from the Mayo Clinic practices, and how unnecessary, redundant, and costly laboratory tests can be eliminated while maintaining the highest quality medical care. In addition, we will draw on the expertise of our guest faculty for their views on diagnosis and management of non-malignant blood disorders.

Intended Audience

In addition to primary care specialties like internal medicine and family practice, this conference is designed for specialty providers like hematologists, oncologists, hematopathologists, and pathologists. It’s also well suited for advanced practice providers such as nurse practitioners and physician assistants.

Objectives

Upon completion of the conference, participants should be able to:

  • Recognize clinical presentation of rare bone marrow failure syndromes.
  • Describe the algorithmic strategy for the diagnostic workup of various red blood cell, white blood cell and platelet disorders.
  • Discuss the recent advances in the management of these disorders.

Attendance at this Mayo conference does not indicate nor guarantee competence or proficiency in the performance of any procedures that may be discussed or taught in the courses.
