MayoACCESS users: Update print service

Operational update

Mayo Clinic Laboratories has adopted two new printing options, Standard Windows Printing and Sunquest Print Service (SPS), previously known as Atlas Print Service (APS), that support the use of Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge for the MayoACCESS application.

Users will need to choose one of the options below for their site and complete the required steps.

  • Option 1: Standard Windows Printing — Print directly from the internet browser to the selected printer without needing to install anything. This printing option is like other browser-based printing, which requires selecting a printer and clicking “Print” each time printing is needed. The number of copies will be controlled through the standard Windows print dialog, and printing to PDF will require the user to provide a new document name or overwrite the previously printed file.
  • Option 2: Sunquest Print Service (SPS) — SPS allows users to print silently using Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge internet browsers. Silent printing allows for printing directly to the SPS default printer and the defined MayoACCESS Label Printer without selecting a printer each time the user prints. SPS needs to be installed on workstations where users want to print MayoACCESS specimen labels, result reports, and batch sheets. The installation will require administrator rights. SPS replaces the functionality previously provided by MeadCo ActiveX and Atlas Print Service (APS).

After the preferred option has been selected, follow the steps outlined below to complete the process:

Option 1: Standard Windows Printing

  1. Reminder: No installation required on local workstations.
  2. To convert your site configuration, click here to make a selection and set a date.
    • IMPORTANT: Your site must be converted before you can begin using this print option.

Option 2: Sunquest Print Service (SPS)

  1. Use the MayoACCESS Print Service Installation and Setup Guide to install SPS on every workstation at the site where MayoACCESS is used.
  2. Contact the site IT group to allow users to install with administrator rights.
  3. Allow 10-15 minutes to complete the installation on each workstation.
  4. To convert your site configuration, click here to make a selection and set a date.
    • IMPORTANT: Your site must be converted before you can begin using this print option.

Once the site configuration has been activated, a confirmation will be sent to the email address provided during the configuration sign-up process. At that time, users will be able to print from either Microsoft Edge or Google Chrome browsers.
