THE IMPORTANCE OF EVALUATING MULTIPLE ANTIBODIES
Our practice has found serological and CSF antibody findings for limbic encephalitis to be diverse and cannot be predicted by phenotype alone. Furthermore, findings of co-existing antibodies can narrow a search for an underlying cancer, which, if identified in this early stage, is often very amenable to treatment.
The Mayo Clinic Neuroimmunology Laboratory is focused on autoimmunity affecting the brain, optic nerve, retina, spinal cord, autonomic and somatic nerves and muscle. The laboratory continues to discover and clinically validate novel autoantibody profiles that inform neurological decision-making and guide the search for cancer. The neuroimmunology laboratory also complements Mayo Clinic’s Autoimmune Neurology Clinic.
