Optimized detection of highly transmittable illness
Expert-developed evaluations to detect and diagnose
Present in soils, on plants, in the air, on people’s skin, and inside the body, millions of fungal species inhabit the planet. While only a few hundred can cause illness, some fungal infections can be severe and even life-threatening.
The Mycology and Mycobacteriology Laboratory at Mayo Clinic provides both routine and esoteric testing focused on the detection, identification, and antimicrobial susceptibility testing of fungi and mycobacteria present in patient specimens from around the world.
Our algorithmic approach to testing for fungal infections, combined with utilization of innovative testing methodologies, enables detection of a wide variety of fungal pathogens, including species of Histoplasma, Coccidioides, and Blastomyces.
