Assessments, Purchasing & Inventory, and Nonconforming Event Management

Overview

This module uses a scenario format to explore components of the following Quality System Essentials (QSEs): Nonconforming Event Management, Purchasing & Inventory, and Assessments. The opening segment uses a daily lab huddle to identify day-to-day issues and empower employees to solve problems. Segment two describes the core components of an event- management system. Segment three discusses key points regarding the management of reagent issues, which is one component of the QSE Purchasing & Inventory. The final segment explains the importance of establishing a robust proficiency testing (PT) program and includes best practices for managing a failed PT.

Objectives

After completing this module, participants should be able to:

  • Recognize core components of an event-management program.
  • Examine key steps to take when managing a reagent issue.
  • Identify four alternate assessment of performance (AAP) methods that could be used when proficiency testing is not available.
  • Assess the strengths and limitations of your organization’s current practices related to the key components outlined above.
