Xiaotun Zhang, M.B., Anatomic/Clinical Pathology Resident, was recently named the 2017–2018 Dr. Hobart K.B. Allebach Fellowship in Pathology Outstanding Resident.
About Dr. Xiaotun Zhang
Dr. Xiaotun Zhang is a third-year resident with a focus on genitourinary pathology. She is originally from China, where she received her Bachelor of Medicine degree from Weifang Medical College and completed her anatomic pathology residency training at Qingdao Municipal Hospital. She also earned a master’s degree in pathology from Qingdao Medical College. After moving to the U.S., Dr. Zhang worked at the University of Washington in Seattle for nine years, initially as a postdoctoral fellow and subsequently as an acting research assistant professor, focusing on prostate cancer research. During her residency at Mayo Clinic, she has had numerous poster presentations at the United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology conferences, a platform presentation at the 2016 College of American Pathologists conference, and has several published papers. Dr. Zhang recently received an Excellence in Urological Pathology Resident/Fellow Research Award from the International Society of Urological Pathology.
About the Allebach Award
Hobart K.B. Allebach (1903–1989) was a pathology fellow at Mayo Clinic from 1932–1934. He then went on to become chief of pathology in Kansas City, Missouri, and retired from practice in 1968. Dr. Allebach endowed the award for “excellence in pathology resident” at Mayo Clinic and the award was instituted in 1990.
