Mayo Clinic monitoring rising avian influenza cases
Rising cases of avian influenza in poultry farms along with the recent death of an 11-year-old girl in Cambodia infected with the virus have reinvigorated concern over the virus potentially gaining the ability to spread among humans.
In a post on Mayo Clinic’s News Network, Mayo Clinic’s director of Clinical Virology, Matthew Binnicker, Ph.D., explains the concern over a potential human-to-human outbreak of avian influenza and what’s being done at Mayo Clinic and elsewhere to mitigate that risk.
