Memorial Day 2024 Specimen Shipping Guidelines and Schedule


Mayo Clinic Laboratories specimen pickup and delivery schedules will be altered due to the upcoming Memorial Day holiday on Monday, May 27, 2024. To ensure specimen stability and prevent delays, follow the guidelines below outlined for domestic clients and international clients.

Guidelines for domestic clients

  • Shipments sent Friday, May 24 or Saturday, May 25 may not arrive until Wednesday, May 29, when using FedEx or UPS.
  • Delays are possible. To help minimize sample impact, courier routes shipping by UPS will be moved to FedEx or Delta by Mayo Clinic Laboratories’ Global Logistics.
  • Clients shipping on their own, choosing to ship via UPS or FedEx on Friday, May 24 or Saturday, May 25 should add additional frozen cool packs to refrigerate shipments and use sufficient dry ice to cover the extended transit time.

Holiday shipping schedule

Friday, May 24

  • Normal courier pickup
  • If there is an unexpected delay, shipments would not arrive to Mayo Clinic Laboratories until Tuesday, May 28.
  • Clients on courier routes shipping by UPS will be moved to FedEx or Delta by Mayo Clinic Laboratories’ Global Logistics.

Saturday, May 25

  • Normal courier pickup
  • Deliveries will arrive at Mayo Clinic Laboratories on Tuesday, May 28 or Wednesday, May 29.
  • Clients on courier routes shipping by UPS will be moved to FedEx or Delta by Mayo Clinic Laboratories’ Global Logistics.

Sunday, May 26

  • Normal courier pickup

Monday, May 27 (Memorial Day)

  • No courier pickup and no FedEx or UPS deliveries

Tuesday, May 28

  • Normal courier pickup
  • Normal delivery operations

To cancel a courier pick-up or for questions, please contact Customer Service at 800-533-1710 and ask to be forwarded to the Global Logistics Specialist.

Guidelines for international clients

To safeguard your samples, we strongly recommend the following guidelines for international shipments except for clients in Saudi Arabia:

  • For shipments with a one-day transit time, do not ship on Saturday, May 25 or Sunday, May 26.
  • For shipments with two or three-day transit times, do not ship on Thursday,May 23or Friday, May 24, as these shipments could incur potential delays per U.S. Customs and operations. They may not be delivered until Wednesday, May 29or later. Please hold irretrievable samples.
  • Normal carrier (UPS, FedEx, DHL) deliveries will resume Tuesday, May 28. Please ensure “Saturday Delivery” is selected on your airway bill when creating shipments as per standard shipping process.
