1.

What brought you to Mayo Clinic, and how long have you worked here?

Rehab Elkadri

The influence of the academic sector and the invaluable contributions of Mayo Clinic have been instrumental throughout my career. From my Ph.D. thesis to my postdoctoral research in molecular immunology and infectious disease, Mayo’s groundbreaking work was my guide. In addition, transitioning to the industrial sector deepened my respect for Mayo’s culture, innovation, and patient-centered care.

When an opportunity to join Mayo Clinic Laboratories came in December 2021, I eagerly relocated from the United Kingdom to the United Arab Emirates, a decision that has been incredibly fulfilling. Working within the Neurology division’s international team in the Middle East and North Africa region has allowed me to experience Mayo’s collaborative environment firsthand and pursue excellence every day.

2.

What’s your current role and what does a typical workday look like for you?

Rehab begins a new chapter of her career relocating from Guildford, United Kingdom, to the United Arab Emirates, embarking on a new adventure with Mayo Clinic Laboratories.

As an international clinical specialty liaison, my role is filled with excitement and a strong sense of purpose that aligns perfectly with my professional values.

I stay updated on our latest diagnostic tests to effectively engage with healthcare professionals and decision-makers, which increases awareness of our tests. I regularly collaborate with physicians and laboratory directors across my territory to provide the best diagnostic testing solutions for their patients. Passionate about building relationships, I prioritize direct communication to keep physicians informed about new testing developments. My dedication to excellence underscores my commitment to delivering exceptional value to our healthcare partners.

3.

In what way does the work you do benefit healthcare professionals and patients?

In the neurology diagnostic sector, our goal is to equip physicians with specialized tests that offer clear and precise answers. This helps them make informed decisions about patient treatment. As part of an international team, we understand that not every patient can travel to a Mayo Clinic facility. However, we firmly believe that all patients should have access to our advanced testing capabilities. At the core of our work, the patient's needs always come first, and we embody this principle in every aspect of what we do.

4.

Is there anything about you or your job that others may find surprising?

Transparency and honesty in our interactions with hospitals and healthcare professionals are crucial. By openly guiding them on how to use our services cost-effectively, we not only advise labs and decision-makers but also earn their respect and trust. This transparency fosters strong reliance on Mayo Clinic Laboratories, leading care teams to depend heavily on Mayo when deciding what is best for their patients.

5.

Which part(s) of your job is the most challenging, and why?

Engaging with hospitals and physicians across my region presents challenges, but I approach them with optimism and determination. Navigating the unique systems and permissions in each country allows us to tailor our approach to meet specific needs. In the ever-evolving field of neurology diagnostics, it’s my responsibility to keep neurologists informed about new tests and advancements for more effective patient care.

The trust we've built with healthcare professionals over the years is invaluable. They recognize that our visits offer valuable updates and resources. This enables us to make a meaningful impact in the healthcare community and strengthen partnerships for the benefit of patients.
