Memorial Day Specimen Shipping Alert


Due to the Memorial Day holiday (recognized on Monday, May 26), Mayo Clinic Laboratories' specimen pickup and delivery schedules will be altered. To ensure that your specimen vitality and turnaround times are not affected, please note the following plans for Domestic and International shipping:

Domestic

Guidelines for shipping FedEx or UPS

  • When using FedEx or UPS, deliveries sent on Friday, May 23, or Saturday, May 24, may not arrive until Wednesday, May 28.
  • Delays are possible. To help minimize sample impact, courier routes shipping by UPS will be moved to FedEx or Delta by Mayo Clinic Laboratories’ Global Logistics.
  • Clients shipping on their own, choosing to ship via UPS or FedEx on Friday, May 23, or Saturday, May 24, should add additional frozen cool packs to refrigerate shipments and use sufficient dry ice to cover the extended transit time.

Holiday shipping schedule

Friday, May 23

  • Regular courier pickup
  • If there is an unexpected delay, shipments will not arrive at Mayo Clinic Laboratories until Tuesday, May 27.
  • Clients on courier routes shipping by UPS will be moved to FedEx or Delta by Mayo Clinic Laboratories' Global Logistics, where possible.

Saturday, May 24

Recommendation: Hold samples at your facility and do not ship by FedEx or UPS.

If you choose to ship:                                                  

  • Regular courier pickup
  • Deliveries will arrive at Mayo Clinic Laboratories on Tuesday, May 27, or Wednesday, May 28.
  • Clients on courier routes shipping by UPS will be moved to FedEx or Delta by Mayo Clinic Laboratories' Global Logistics.

Sunday, May 25

  • Regular courier pickup

Monday, May 26 (Memorial Day)

  • No courier pickup and no FedEx or UPS deliveries

Tuesday, May 27

  • Regular courier pickup
  • Regular delivery operations

International

To safeguard your samples, we strongly recommend the following guidelines for international shipments except for clients in Saudi Arabia:

  • Do not send shipments with a one-day transit time on Saturday, May 24, or Sunday, May 25.
  • For shipments with two or three-day transit times, do not ship on Thursday, May 22, or Friday, May 23, as these shipments could incur potential delays per U.S. Customs and operations. They may not be delivered untilWednesday,May 28or later. Please hold any irretrievable samples.
  • Regular carrier (UPS, FedEx, DHL) deliveries will resume on Tuesday, May 27. As per the standard shipping process, please ensure "Saturday Delivery" is selected on your airway bill when creating shipments.
