Dr. Bill Morice discusses collaboration and diagnostic platforms with Becker’s Healthcare Podcast

William Morice, M.D., Ph.D., president and CEO of Mayo Clinic Laboratories.

William Morice II, M.D., Ph.D., president and chief executive officer of Mayo Clinic Laboratories, joins the “Becker’s Healthcare Podcast” to discuss how a platform approach to diagnostics and strategic collaborations enhances outcomes.

Dr. Morice describes the value of collaboration for Mayo Clinic Laboratories, its collaborators, clients, and patients. He also explains how to identify organizations to work with and how to establish relationships to successfully achieve shared goals.

“The value of us collaborating with others is that as we think about our primary focus, which is the needs of the patient come first, it allows us to give those patients access not just to our innovations but really the innovations happening across the globe in diagnostics,” says Dr. Morice.

Dr. Morice explains Mayo Clinic Laboratories’ decision to embrace a platform model and what it means for clinicians and their patients. Platforms, such as Amazon or Uber, facilitate interactions between groups by making it easier for them to interact.

For Mayo Clinic Laboratories, this means offering solutions from Mayo Clinic and collaborators around the globe to provide a more comprehensive approach to diagnostics. A platform helps clinicians better understand what diagnostic tools to use to answer their question and delivers the results in a comprehensive way. Instead of using tests as individual pieces of information, a platform makes it possible to deliver them as a package with a clear answer for clinicians.

“It takes the lab from something that is creating information to something that is really helping guide their journey in healthcare,” says Dr. Morice.
