Independence Day Specimen Shipping Guidelines and Schedule


Mayo Clinic Laboratories' specimen pickup and delivery schedules will be altered due to the upcoming July 4th holiday. To ensure specimen stability and prevent delays, follow the guidelines outlined below for domestic clients and international clients.

Guidelines for domestic clients

Guidelines for shipping FedEx or UPS

  • Shipments sent Thursday, July 3, will not arrive until Saturday, July 5.
  • Clients shipping on their own, choosing to ship on Thursday, July 3, should add frozen cool packs to refrigerate shipments and use sufficient dry ice to cover the extended transit time. *Expect high temperatures at transit locations where shipments will wait 24 hours.

Thursday, July 3

Recommendation: Holding samples at your facility is strongly encouraged. We recommend not shipping by FedEx or UPS. With carrier closures, potential delays will put shipments at risk.

If you choose to ship:                                                  

  • Regular courier pickup
  • Deliveries will arrive at Mayo Clinic Laboratories on Saturday, July 5.

Friday, July 4 (Independence Day)

  • No courier pickup and no FedEx or UPS deliveries.

  • Regular courier pickup
  • Regular delivery operations

To cancel a courier pick-up or for questions, call Customer Service at 800-533-1710 and ask to be forwarded to the Global Logistics Specialist.

Guidelines for international clients

To safeguard your samples, we strongly recommend the following guidelines for international shipments:

  • For shipments with a one-day transit time, do not ship on Thursday, July 3.
  • Normal carrier (UPS, FedEx, DHL) deliveries will resume Saturday, July 5. When creating shipments using the standard shipping process, please ensure “Saturday Delivery” is selected on your airway bill.
