Labor Day Specimen Shipping Guidelines and Schedule

Mayo Clinic Laboratories' specimen pickup and delivery schedules will be altered due to the upcoming American Labor Day holiday. To ensure specimen stability and prevent delays, follow the guidelines below:

Guidelines for domestic clients

Guidelines for shipping FedEx or UPS

  • When using FedEx or UPS, deliveries sent Friday, Aug. 29, or Saturday, Aug. 30, may not arrive until Wednesday, Sept. 3.
  • Delays are possible. To minimize the effect on samples, courier routes shipping by UPS will be moved to FedEx or Delta by Mayo Clinic Laboratories' Global Logistics.
  • Clients shipping on their own, choosing to ship via UPS or FedEx on Friday, Aug. 29, or Saturday, Aug. 30, should add extra frozen cool packs to refrigerate shipments and use sufficient dry ice to cover the extended transit time.

  • For shipments with two or three-day transit times, do not ship on Thursday, Aug. 28 or Friday, Aug. 29, as these shipments could incur potential delays per U.S. Customs and operations. They may not be delivered until Wednesday, Sept. 3, or later. Please hold irretrievable samples.
  • Normal carrier (UPS, FedEx, DHL) deliveries will resume Tuesday, Sept. 2. Please ensure "Saturday Delivery" is selected on your airway bill when creating shipments.
