Thanksgiving 2025 Specimen Shipping Guidelines and Schedule


Mayo Clinic Laboratories' specimen pickup and delivery schedules will be altered due to the upcoming holiday. To ensure specimen stability and prevent delays, follow the guidelines below:

Guidelines for domestic clients

Guidelines for shipping FedEx or UPS

  • When using FedEx or UPS, deliveries sent on Tuesday, Nov. 25, may not arrive until Friday, Nov. 28. Deliveries sent on Wednesday, Nov. 26, will not arrive until Friday, Nov. 28, and may extend into Saturday, Nov. 29.
  • Delays are possible. To help minimize sample impact, Mayo Clinic Laboratories' Global Logistics will move courier routes shipping via UPS to FedEx or Delta.
  • Clients shipping on their own, choosing to ship via UPS or FedEx should add additional frozen cool packs to refrigerate shipments and use sufficient dry ice to cover the extended transit time.

  • Clients on courier routes shipping by UPS or FedEx will be moved to Delta where available by Mayo Clinic Laboratories' Global Logistics.

Thursday, Nov. 27 (Thanksgiving holiday)

  • No courier pickup and no FedEx or UPS deliveries

Friday, Nov. 28

  • Regular courier pickup
  • Regular delivery operations

Guidelines for international clients

 To safeguard your samples, we strongly recommend the following guidelines for international shipments except for clients in Saudi Arabia & United Arab Emirates:

  • Do not send shipments with a one-day transit time on Wednesday, Nov. 26
  • For shipments with two or three-day transit times, do not ship on Monday, Nov. 24, and Tuesday, Nov. 25, as these shipments could incur potential delays per U.S. Customs and operations. They may not be delivered until Friday, Nov. 28 or later. Please hold any irretrievable samples.
  • Regular carrier (UPS, FedEx, DHL) deliveries will resume on Friday, Nov. 28. When creating shipments, be sure to select "Saturday Delivery" on your airway bill, following the standard shipping process.
