
Christmas 2025 Specimen Shipping Guidelines and Schedule
Mayo Clinic Laboratories' specimen pickup and delivery schedules will be altered due to the upcoming Christmas holiday. To ensure specimen stability and prevent delays, follow the guidelines below:
Guidelines for domestic clients
Guidelines for shipping FedEx or UPS
- When using FedEx or UPS, deliveries sent on Tuesday, Dec. 23, may not arrive until Friday, Dec. 26. Deliveries sent on Wednesday, Dec. 24, will not arrive until Friday, Dec. 26, and may extend to Saturday, Dec. 27.
- Delays are possible. To help minimize sample risk, courier routes shipping by UPS will be moved to FedEx or Delta by Mayo Clinic Laboratories' Global Logistics.
- Clients shipping on their own, choosing to ship via UPS or FedEx should add additional frozen cool packs to refrigerate shipments and use sufficient dry ice to cover extended transit time.
Holiday shipping schedule
Tuesday, Dec. 23
- Standard courier pickup
- If there is an unexpected delay, shipments may not arrive at Mayo Clinic Laboratories until Friday, Dec. 26.
Wednesday, Dec. 24
Recommendation: Hold samples at your facility and do not ship by FedEx or UPS.
If you choose to ship:
- Standard courier pickup
- Deliveries will arrive at Mayo Clinic Laboratories on Friday, Dec. 26, or Saturday, Dec. 27.
- Clients on courier routes shipping by UPS or FedEx will be moved to Delta (where available) by Mayo Clinic Laboratories' Global Logistics.
Thursday, Dec. 25 (Christmas holiday)
- No courier pickup and no FedEx or UPS deliveries
Friday, Dec. 26
- Standard courier pickup
- Standard delivery operations

Guidelines for international clients
To safeguard your samples, we strongly recommend the following guidelines for international shipments except for clients in Saudi Arabia and United Arab Emirates:
- Do not send shipments with a one-day transit time on Wednesday, Dec. 24
- For shipments with two- or three-day transit times, do not ship on Monday, Dec. 22, and Tuesday, Dec. 23, as these shipments could incur potential delays per U.S. Customs and operations. They may not be delivered until Friday, Dec. 26 or later. Please hold any irretrievable samples.
- Regular carrier (UPS, FedEx, DHL) deliveries will resume on Friday, Dec. 26. When creating shipments, be sure to select "Saturday Delivery" on your airway bill, following the standard shipping process.
