Negative COVID-19 test now required before flying to the U.S.

Beginning Jan. 26, all air travelers entering the U.S. from other countries — including Americans returning home — will need a negative COVID-19 test result before they can board their flights. This change was explained in a recent New York Times article that covered the new policy and talked with experts about the pros and cons of this type of COVID-19 testing policy. Those experts included William Morice II, M.D., Ph.D., president of Mayo Clinic Laboratories, who said, "A test creates a safety net, but it’s a safety net with pretty big holes.”  

The article also reviews the travel rules for people who have had a COVID-19 infection in the past three months, which differ somewhat from the rules for people who have not recently had the virus.
