Dr. Robin Patel shares periprosthetic joint infection findings in NEJM
Robin Patel, M.D., a consultant in Mayo Clinic’s Division of Clinical Microbiology and Division of Public Health, Infectious Diseases, and Occupational Medicine; director of Mayo Clinic’s Infectious Diseases Research Laboratory; and co-director of the Clinical Bacteriology Laboratory, was recently featured in the New England Journal of Medicine (NEJM) for her work on periprosthetic joint infection (PJI). The infection is a rare disease, clinically distinct from native bone or joint infection, that involves interactions between microorganisms and the implant as well as the host immune system.
