Results report simplifies urine test interpretation: John Lieske, M.D.
Answers from the Lab
The results report for urine supersaturation testing contains multiple data points. In this test-specific episode of the "Answers From the Lab" podcast, John Lieske, M.D., explains how Mayo Clinic Laboratories is making it easier for clinicians to interpret this complex information and better care for patients with kidney stones.
"These test results can really be important clues to diagnosis and treatment options," Dr. Lieske says. "But it's a somewhat complicated set of numbers. We're trying to make these results much more intuitive to providers."
The updated results report includes graphics that highlight key numbers and trends, as well as interpretive comments. It also includes an explanatory guide to what the test measures and the importance of those measurements to kidney stone disease.
"Kidney stones are quite common. But getting the most information from these reports can be daunting," Dr. Lieske says. "This updated results report will be very helpful for people who don't have a lot of experience with interpreting these tests."
