Renal pathology
Evaluation and reporting for medical kidney diseases
Our multispecialty renal pathology team and comprehensive approach offer the ideal environment to promptly diagnose common as well as rare and complex cases.
To ensure diagnostic accuracy and thoroughness, a Mayo Clinic renal pathologist evaluates kidney biopsy specimens by light microscopy, immunofluorescence, electron microscopy, and when indicated, by ancillary techniques (such as pronase immunofluorescence, IgG subtype staining, immunohistochemistry, and mass spectrometry). The pathologic findings are reported based on current diagnostic standards established by the Renal Pathology Society, Banff Conferences, and International Kidney and Monoclonal Gammopathy Research Group.
