Curtis Hanson, M.D., Elected as ACLA Chair

At the recent American Clinical Laboratory Association (ACLA) annual meeting, Curt A. Hanson, M.D., Chief Medical Officer at Mayo Medical Laboratories, was elected as Chair of the ACLA Board.

Dr. Hanson will serve a two-year term, and he previously held the vice chair position with ACLA. Active in several industry organizations, Dr. Hanson also serves on the Center for Medicare Advisory Panel on Clinical Diagnostic Laboratory Tests. This panel plays a crucial role in providing input on the establishment of payment rates for new clinical laboratory tests.

Dr. Hanson brings a unique and valuable perspective to the ACLA Board, as his experience spans the clinical, research, academic, and business practices of laboratory medicine. With 30 years of clinical laboratory-testing experience, pathology expertise, and insight into laboratory operational concerns, Dr. Hanson has been a practicing hematopathologist at Mayo Clinic since 1993. From 2002 to 2006, he was chair of the Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology. Currently, he is the Vice Chair of Extramural Laboratory Affairs within DLMP and the Chief Medical Officer of MML. Dr. Hanson’s leadership roles have strongly positioned him to understand industry and national laboratory-management issues.

We are very proud that Dr. Hanson has been elected to serve as the ACLA Chair in 2017. He will bring leadership, experience, integrity, and skill to this role.
