Pre-Conference Bicycle Trip
Hindriks Bicycle Tours is organizing a 10-day pre-conference bicycle tour. This trip explores an area of outstanding natural beauty, beginning near the Austrian/Italian border and ending in the Veneto region near famous Bassano del Grappa.
You will depart from Nauders in Austria, then cycle to Meran/Merano, and to Bozen/Bolzano. From there, you’ll cross into the Italian-only speaking area of Trento, a lovely town of great historical importance. Toward the end of the trip, we will follow the new and magnificent bike trail in the Sugana valley to end in Marostica just west of Bassano del Grappa. The great views of the mountains, countless castles, apple orchards, and excellent local wines are a few of the highlights of the route. Of course, the historical towns along the way (such as Glurns, Merano, Bolzano, Trento, Bassano and Marostica) deserve to be explored off the saddle. Sightseeing includes the magnificent castle at Tirolo, the prehistoric iceman Otzi in Bolzano and a wonderful tour of a grappa factory near Marostica.
Accommodations are excellent, with mainly 4-star ratings. The riding is moderate, rolling terrain at the beginning, moving to more flat terrain later in the trip and some hilly terrain towards the end. Daily distances are between 30 and 35 miles with two longer point-to-point riding days. The trip is 10 days/9 nights.
Trip price: $ 3,900, single supplement $ 750. Included are bus transfers, 9 nights/10 days in comfortable hotels, all breakfasts, 6 dinners, trekking bikes (Giant Aero RS1), entrance fees to selected sights, bicycle guides, and a support van. Trip starts and ends at Venice Airport. Dates are from Saturday, September 15, to Monday September 24, 2018.
