Overview

In this month’s “Virtual Lecture,” James Hernandez, M.D., expresses the importance of safety and why it is integral in processing and phlebotomy. Dr. Hernandez will also describe the significance of teamwork, the “just culture,” and crew resource management. Using these tools helps to make for a safer system.

Objectives

Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Describe the importance of developing strong teams by using the principles of the “just culture” to learn from errors.
  • Describe crew resource management and an SBAR (situation, background, assessment, and recommendation).

Intended Audience

This program is designed for phlebotomists, phlebotomy managers, phlebotomy educators, and other patient-care staff involved in specimen collection.
