Jerry Katzmann, Ph.D., an emeritus consultant in the Mayo Clinic Protein Immunology Laboratory, has received the AACC Academy Award for Outstanding Contributions to Clinical Chemistry in a Selected Area of Research. This award recognizes especially meritorious research contributions by an individual in a specific area of clinical chemistry.
Clinical chemists who have received this award have achieved national and international status for their pioneering efforts in an area of research considered fundamental to the science and have been considered among the world’s foremost experts in that specific discipline.
Dr. Katzmann retired from Mayo Clinic in 2014. In addition to his work in the Protein Immunology Laboratory, he was an Associate Professor of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology and an Assistant Professor of Microbiology. Dr. Katzmann received his Bachelor of Science degree in mathematics and doctoral degree from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. He received his post-doctoral degree in immunology from the University of Illinois at the Medical Center in Chicago.
Mayo Clinic colleagues nominated Dr. Katzmann for the award with 10 letters of support for his career achievements.
Dr. Katzman will be recognized during the 69th AACC Annual Scientific Meeting & Clinical Lab Expo at the opening plenary session at the San Diego Convention Center on Sunday, July 30.
