Jason Hipp, M.D., Ph.D., chair of Computational Pathology and AI at Mayo Clinic’s Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology, and director of Digital Innovation for Mayo Clinic Laboratories, spoke with the Dark Report about how Mayo Clinic is modernizing clinical pathology workflows and how other labs can apply those lessons in their organizations.
“We have a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity in this field,” said Dr. Hipp. “There are new opportunities to be generated with this new discipline — novel ways to generate revenue, conduct pathology, and rethink data.”
To achieve these goals, Dr. Hipp points to the need for abundant cloud storage, big datasets, and artificial intelligence. At Mayo Clinic, multidisciplinary teams of pathologists and data scientists are using technology, longitudinal information, and strategic partnerships to reimagine pathology and the laboratory.
