Autopsy pathology
The autopsy section, which is a unique hybrid of hospital autopsy services and medical examiner’s office, provides a unique depth of experience to evaluate natural and non-natural deaths from across the globe.
Bone and soft tissue pathology
Working collaboratively with clinical partners in radiology, oncology, surgery, and other disciplines, the pathologists in the bone and soft tissue section provide expertise to help diagnose challenging soft tissue and bone tumors.
Breast pathology
Our breast disease subspecialists perform thousands of breast disease consultations annually and assist in diagnosing cases across the spectrum of conditions. Our expansive molecular and immunohistochemistry test menus aid in diagnosing rare tumors.
Cardiovascular pathology
Our multidisciplinary approach to the cardiovascular consultative practice leverages our radiology and cardiology colleagues to review challenging cases and arrive at specific, clinically actionable diagnoses.
Cytopathology
Each year our cytopathology team reviews upwards of 2,400 cases from around the world, providing unparalleled expertise to solve the most difficult cases.
Dermatopathology
Our dermatopathology consultative practice focuses on unusual cutaneous neoplastic disease and complex medical conditions involving the skin.
Endocrine pathology
Focusing on tumors and diseases related to the endocrinal organs, with the majority of cases related to the thyroid, the endocrine practice provides a unique, highly specialized service.
Gastrointestinal pathology
Our robust gastrointestinal pathology section consults on more than 10,000 cases annually, providing expert opinions across the spectrum of GI pathology.
Gynecologic pathology
From ovarian tumors to endometrial lesions and beyond, our gynecologic section consults on a wide range of conditions.
Head and neck pathology
Our head and neck pathologists are integrated with the clinical practice at Mayo Clinic and help classify and diagnose an array of salivary, sinonasal, and oropharynx tumors.
Hematopathology
Bringing unmatched experience and expertise to the consultations, our bone marrow and lymphoid team hematopathology section provides expert opinions on more than 8,000 cases each year.
Infectious diseases pathology

Neuropathology
Our neuropathology team consults on more than 2,700 cases each year, providing expert second options across the spectrum of neurological disease.

Placenta pathology

Pulmonary pathology
The pulmonary section at Mayo Clinic consults on a broad range of neoplastic and non-neoplastic thoracic cases and has access to additional testing for a more detailed work-up. We are the first center accredited by the Primary Ciliary Dyskinesia (PCD) Foundation for the diagnosis of PCD.
Renal pathology
Our renal pathology section examines kidney biopsy specimens by light microscopy, immunofluorescence, electron microscopy, and ancillary techniques, when indicated, to provide the most thorough evaluation.
Transplant pathology
The transplant pathology section oversees heart and lung transplantation cases as well as biopsies from transplanted lungs and hearts.
Urologic pathology
Consulting on upwards of 3,000 cases each year, our integrated team of urologic pathologists works closely with the clinical practice at Mayo Clinic to provide optimal guidance on kidney, bladder, prostate, testicular, and penile cases.
