A patient-centered, value-based approach to testing
Our Special Coagulation Laboratory has been at the forefront of patient-centered and value-based diagnostic laboratory testing, research, and patient management for nearly 90 years. Led by a multidisciplinary team of physicians, the laboratory offers a broad repertoire of coagulation tests covering a wide spectrum of bleeding and thrombosis disorders.

An algorithmic and cost-effective
way of testing
Coagulation-focused algorithms developed collaboratively among physicians, pathologists, laboratorians, and genetic counselors are available. These algorithms recommend approaches for diagnosis of specific diseases and assist in treatment and monitoring of patient care. In addition, they can guide proper and cost-effective test utilization (e.g., activated protein C resistance testing with reflex to factor V Leiden analysis).

Coagulation NGS Testing
Rajiv Pruthi, M.B.B.S., gives an overview of the new coagulation NGS testing. He discusses when this testing should be ordered, how this testing compares to previous testing approaches, and what clinical action can be taken due to the results of this testing.

In this month’s “Hot Topic,” Rajiv Pruthi, M.B.B.S., will discuss different types of hemophilia along with their pathologic basis. He will also cover various types of factor assays such as one stage and chromogenic factor assays for diagnosis and their role in management of hemophilia.
Mayo Clinic laboratory experts share three case studies in this month’s “PathWays” post and are challenging you to test your anatomic pathology, neuropathology, and special coagulation knowledge. Review the cases, take the quizzes, and learn how the correct diagnoses were made.
